Who are we being in our lives?
Are you being a victim? Blaming others, blaming circumstances, always ready with excuses, taking the easy way out, getting caught in drama
Or are you being the hero in your own life? Taking responsibility, following through on your promises, doing what needs to be done even when it is hard and you’d rather take the easy way.
We all get a choice here
And every day we are choosing whether we are being a hero or a victim.
To create an extraordinary life we need to be aware of which choice we are making.
The key here is taking responsibility
And to be clear, when I say take responsibility in our lives this does not mean we are to blame when a disaster strikes, please don’t misunderstand me.
What I mean is we are all responsible for the choices we make when it comes to our words, actions, thoughts, emotions and behaviour.
This is a choice we have to make each day. And choosing to take responsibility in our life also means choosing to do this 100%. Not just when things are going smoothly.
It involves choosing to take responsibility when we are having bad days or things aren’t going well.
By choosing to take responsibility we acknowledge that we are creating our own reality. That everything in life is happening FOR us and not TO us.
We are the hero and not the victim in our own life.
So how do we do this?
We keep it simple… We simply drop the excuses, the reasons, the justifications, the blaming.
There is a saying that anything we can justify we can live with, what we can’t justify we will change.
The more energy we put into justifying and making excuses and taking on what is not our responsibility the less energy we have for making change.
So when we drop the excuses what are we left with?
Lets keep it very simple
Whenever that little voice in your head gives you an excuse, a reason why not
Anything after “I can’t because…”
Simply drop this.
And every time you tell yourself you can’t, replace it with “I must”
The reason this works so well is that the neural connections in our brains are like roads. The ones we use most often become like highways.
So when we don’t take responsibility and use excuses and reasons frequently those messages travel down the highways super quick.
When we create new pathways such as taking responsibility and saying “I must” we start building up new roads. It takes practice and repetition but those new roads soon become well used highways and the old highway starts getting overgrown.
So lets keep it simple, take responsibility and focus on the bigger picture
And yes your ego will argue with you about how this won’t work and that’s ok, let it!
You are creating the life you want, on your terms
And taking responsibility to be your own hero is an incredible first step to achieving this!
